Laurence Liauw is Principal Director of SPADA Ltd, Director of Spada Health Concepts Ltd, and Adjunct Associate Professor at The University of Hong Kong Faculty of Architecture, teaching on various programmes including the Master of Urban Design, Master of Urban & Regional Planning, and having also taught the Master of Transport & Urban Design, Master of Landscape Architecture, Master of Achitecture. Previously teaching at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and on international programs with University of Southern California and Columbia University GSAPP. Previously an ex-investment banker in London, New York and Tokyo, he has practised over the past 30 plus years as a registered architect, urban designer, masterplanner and strategic development consultant in UK, Middle East, Africa, SE Asia, Mainland China and Hong Kong. Graduating from the Architectural Association School of Architecture London and London University. Winner of international competitions and design awards. His expertise is in China’s urbanization process, strategic planning, urban development, leading to his 2008 publication “AD: New Urban China”, and 2012 “New Economic Spaces in Asian Cities”. Professional projects have focused on Transport Oriented Development, Airports and Aviation Cities, Healthy Lifestyle Multi-Generational Communities, International CBDs, Financial Districts, Academic and Technology Campuses, Cultural Institutional buildings, Wellness & Healthcare. Expert advisor to Government planning bureaus and development agencies in HK, China and Asia. Liauw was a Creative Team member for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo Shenzhen Pavilion, and Exhibitor at 2006 Venice Architecture Biennale. He has lectured widely on design and urban development, including at Harvard GSD, Columbia University, Bartlett School UCL, Delft University, Tsinghua and Peking Universities.
